Diana Hobby Editorial Intern Fellowships
SEL Studies in English Literature 1500-1900
Applicants must be enrolled in the Rice English Department graduate program. Applicants should have editorial experience with literary publications either at Rice or elsewhere. They should be meticulous and enjoy doing research and proofreading. They will work with all members of the SEL staff on preparing accepted essays for publication, processing books for review, and sending offprints to publishers. They will learn protocols of copyediting, The Chicago Manual of Style, library research techniques, and effective procedures for submitting articles to journals. Familiarity with Microsoft Word is required; advanced computer skills with some web page experience would be desirable. Graduate students in the English Department are notified by email and with hard copy messages when SEL is accepting applications.
Although office needs may dictate adjustment, possible terms of appointment are the following:
Fellowships are usually in the range of $3,000 for approximately 180 hours to be determined
I. as a weekly schedule during the summer only. Remuneration is figured at $16.00/hour.
II. as a weekly schedule during the summer, fall, and spring semesters. Remuneration is figured at $16.00/hour.
III. as a weekly schedule during the fall and spring semesters. Remuneration is figured at $16.00/hour.
Fellowships awarded to successful returning Hobby Fellows will be remunerated at the rate of $18.00/hour.
